I. GENERAL
DATE: 5 May 1964
A. On 24 April Lt. Col. Wayne R. Stevens was removed from command of
the Kuma Station and replaced by Lt. Col. Leonard Fischer, formerly
on the staff at ASAPAC, Camp Zama, Japan. On 2 May Colonel Fischer
was replaced as Commanding Officer by Major William L. Davidson,
former Kuma Station 5-4.
OPERATIONS
A.
Monitorial
a. The bureau's weekly coverage decreased 8 hours 45 minutes
during April due to normal seasonal deterioration of reception
plus the discontinuation of certain programs in accordance with
the spring/summer broadcasting schedule initiated by Soviet Far
Eastern and East Siberian transmitters on 24 April.
B. Editorial
a. Abstract and wirefile wordage totaled 242,940; the number of
abstracts was 1,296.
b. Teletype outage totaled 10 hours 5 minutes owing to line trouble.
III. AEMINISTRATION
A. Personnel

a. The bureau's monitoring staff was brought to full strength with
the EOD of Russian Monitor Trainee on 21 April.
En route from Okinawa Bureau where he was given a period of
training and orientation spent one day at the Tokyo Bureau.
IV. VISITS
A.

visited Hokkaido Bureau 29 April ? 2 May.
