1. After an extensive recruiting trip in Nigeria, the Chief,
African Bureau hired six French/English monitors. AS]. monitors

hired will need considerable language training before they meet
FBIS monitor standards

monitor departed on 9 September for Kaduna, Nigeria. Be will remain
at the African Bureau for approximately three months to assist in
monitor training.
2. General coverage of Latin American tranemitters was increased
in connection with the Inter-Aaterican Economic and Social Council
meeting in Banta del Este, Uruguay, 5-17 August. Special arrangements
were made for rapid processing and publication of delegates' speeches.
Liaison and requirements Staff provided Daily Report background material
for the U.S. delegation prior to its departure and arranged to have the
Daily Report airmailed to the U.S. Edbassy in Montevideo during the
conference period.
3. Field bureaus are reminded that if a message from BIS requesting
information "soonest" cannot be ansloamMimithin 12 hours because of the
unavailability& Cruising Realtor or other competent personnel, an
advisory message should be sent indicating when information mill be
forthcoming. Since BIS attempts to relate urgent requests to normal

4, The Broadcast Intonation Section has cOMPleted the
preparation of materiel for the publication "Broadcasting Stations of
the World" which has a cut-oft date of 1 September. The thousands
of amnia have been sorted and made ready for the first /DU run,
vhieb le scheduled for late September. The publication is expected
to be ready for distribution by February.
