SIGNIFICANCE: 2. LOCATION: A SOVIET KOTLIN-CLASS GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER (DDG) WAS OBSERVED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN CUBA AT CIENFUEGOS PORT. CIENFUEGOS PORT FACILITIES -- ON THE SOUTHERN 25X1 3. REMARKS: 4. COLLATERAL: COAST OF CUBA AT 22-08-25N 080-27-20W. ALTHOUGH SOVIET NAVAL TASK GROUPS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED ON PHOTOGRAPHY AT VARIOUS CUBAN PORTS DURING 1970 AND 1971, THIS IS THE FIRST OBSERVATION OF A KOTLIN-CLASS DDG. DIMENSIONS/ TIONS: THE SAM KOTLIN-CLASS DDG IS APPROXIMATELY 129.5 METERS (425 FEET) LONG, HAS A BEAM OF 12.6 METERS (41.5 FEET), AND HAS A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 36 KNOTS. CREW NUMBERS 285.
