SIGNIFICANCE: THIS IS THE FIRST OCCUPIED SA-2 SITE IN SOUTH VIETNAM. THIS SITE EXTENDS THE NORTH VIETNAMESE SA-2 ENVELOPE SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE DMZ TO INCLUDE THE MAJORITY OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN QUANG TRI PROVINCE IN SOUTH VIETNAM. 2. LOCATION: VINH LINH SAM SITE B 19-02 (VS-002), IS LOCATED AT 16-54-15N 107-00-52E, 13.8 NAUTICAL MILES NORTHWEST OF QUANG TRI, SOUTH VIETNAM. 3. REMARKS: ONE UNOCCUPIED FIELD DEPLOYED SA-2 SITE, VINH LINH SITE B 23-02 (VS-001), IS LOCATED 25X1 IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE DMZ. SEVERAL OTHER AREAS IN NORTHERN SOUTH VIETNAM SUSPECTED OF BEING PREPARED FOR SA-2 SITES HAVE ALSO BEEN OBSERVED. 4. MISSION READOUT: THE FIELD DEPLOYED SA-2 SITE CONSISTS OF FOUR UNREVETTED LAUNCH POSITIONS AND AN UNREVETTED GUIDANCE AREA. EACH LAUNCH POSITION IS OCCUPIED WITH A CAMOUFLAGED SA-2 LAUNCHER. AT LEAST TWO LAUNCHERS HAVE MISSILES. THE GUIDANCE AREA, LOCATED IN DENSE VEGETATION IN THE CENTER OF THE SITE, IS OCCUPIED WITH A CAMOUFLAGED PROBABLE FAN SONG RADAR. OTHER EQUIPMENT AT THE SITE INCLUDES A POSSIBLE ACQUISITION RADAR AND FIVE ELECTRONICS VANS. TWO SA-2 TRANSPORTERS (ONE WITH MISSILE) ARE PARKED 900 METERS (2,953-FEET) SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE SITE (NOT SHOWN ON GRAPHIC).
