THIS BRIEF IlVG BOARD DEPICTS A NEW CLASS COMBATANT, PROBABLY OF
CHICOM CONSTRUCTION, IlV NORTH VIETNAM.
2. LOCATION:
HAIPHONG AREA, NORTH VIETNAM.
3? BACKGROUND:
A VESSEL OF THIS TYPE WAS FIRST OBSERVED IN NORTH VIETNAM ON
THE RECENTLY IDENTIFIED SL-2, W[THU, YF AND AN SL-4. IT WAS NEXT OBSERVED
AT THE HAIPHONG MARINE HOSPITAL (IlVFILTRATION) WHARF ALONGSIDE
IN LATE 1968 AND AGAIN

REVEALS A NEW CLASS YP MOORED
ALONGSIDE A SMALL BUNKERING PIER, 3.9 NM WEST OF THE HAIPHONG NAVAL BASE.

ON THE FORWARD PORTION OF THE DECKHOUSE. TWO PROBABLE GUN MOUNTS ARE
LOCATED FORE AND AFT OF THE DECKHOUSE. THE YP HAS A DISTINCT STERN
SECTION IN THAT THE DECKLINE, AT THE STERN, RISES SHARPLY FOR THE LAST
10 FEET AND THEN DIfS TO DECK LEVEL AT THE CENTER OF THE STERN. THE
VESSEL IS PROBABLY ASTEEL-HULLED HARBOR AND RIVER PATROL CRAFT.
5. REMARKS:
THE SIMILARITY BETWEEN THIS VESSEL (WHICH IS NOT YET NAMED) AND
OTHER CHICOM BUILT VESSELS IlVDICATED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY CONSTRUCTED IN
CHIlVA. THE IDENTIFICATION OF THIS NEW CLASS YP ADDS FIVE MORE COMBATANTS
TO THE NAVAL ORDER OF BATTLE OF NORTH VIETNAM.
