Contacts with Ms. Joyce L. Shub
Research Assistant of the Inter-
national Relations Committee,
House of Representatives
On 19 February 1976, at the request of the Legislative
STATINTL Counsel of CIA, and myself briefed Lester
Wolff's subcommittee on Sino-Soviet matters. In attendance
was one Joyce L. Shub who listened intently throughout and
took notes. Several days later, on 1 March, I received a
phone call from Ms. Shub informing me that Lester Wolff was
going to China and she would like to have the names of compe-
tent academic people in the China field to accompany him. I
obliged by providing several names and suggested that she
consider taking a Department of State escort. On 8 March
Ms. Shub phoned and asked if I could attend a House subcom-
mittee meeting at 1400 hours on 10 March on Sino-Soviet
affairs. I told her I was previously committed and could
not come. She then asked me to recommend experts on the PRC
military and I provided her several names, including

phoned me on 17 March and thanked me for meeting with the
French correspondent. She also expressed appreciation that
I had informed her the House Foreign Affairs Committee was
to have a briefing from CIA on 16 March. The HASC on its
own invited Wolff to attend which he did. Ms. Shub appears
to be seeking my help on Chinese matters on a continuing
basis and I plan to be responsive to her requests. I will,
fo course, keep-Legislative Counsel informed.
