MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Dulles Papers
1. I met today with Professor Howard Ehrmann, Chief,
CIA Historical Staff. I outlined to him the procedural steps
that have been taken to arrive at the identity of those documents
which are being retained by the Agency and those already returned
to Mrs. Dulles. He was advised that the residue of the documents
which are being retained by the Agency comprises those papers
which are classified and those which Mr. and
Mr have determined to be in a "sensitive" category.
2. I told Prof. Ehrmann that I have already met with -
Commanding Officer, OSS, concerning that portion
of the residual papers which pertain to that organization. I told
him that we had agreed the OSS portion of the papers should con-
tinue to remain separated but be maintained in juxtaposition with
papers on other subjects in the Dulles collection. Prof. Ehrmann
was advised that we are now ready to move the papers to a suitable
location, thinking that the historical records center - would 25X1A6b
be appropriate.
3. Prof. Ehrmann stated that he would personally like to
look at the papers. (The services of were made 25X1A9a
available to him in this connection. ) After some discussion, it was
agreed that we would physically hold the papers in the Office of
Security until 30 June 1972 at which time the matter of the disposition
would again be considered. He was advised that shortage of space
could possibly bring this matter up for consideration at an earlier
date.
