When involved in a collision, this bumper system can be extremely hazardous t-o---pgr-s-ennel- unless safety precautions are observed. Some of these bumpers are spring-loaded and after impact may release with extreme force. There have been several reported instances of serious injury to patrolmen attempting to separate vehicles. As a of t precaution s attempt fl` to !eparate such vehicpleswhichhhave locked bumpers or to repair a compressed energy-absorbing system. The services of an automobile mechanic should be sought. An additional hazard exists when vehicles with such bumpers are involved in accidents and catch on fire. The oil in the shock absorber system, when heated, may expand rapidly causing an explosion.
