REFERENCE: DCI Memorandum for DDCI, dtd 7 June 1978, Subject:
Action Items from Retreat of 2-3 June 1978
1. Action Requested: That you approve and forward the attached
letter of appreciation to the DCI for signature.
2. Background:
a. Reference tasked DDO and NFAC to prepare "personalized
responses for the Director to forward to field activities which
produced noteworthy reports." Presumably, this guideline applies
equally to those intelligence activities which fall under the staff
purview of the DCI's other principal deputies.
d. The purpose of the proposed letter is to express the UCI's
appreciation for a job well done.
3. Recommendation: That you forward the proposed letter to the
DCI for signature.

report prepared for me on that visit. Several organizations were singled
out for special recognition in the trip report.

associated with the Army's effort to take the theory behind the national--
tactical interface and subject it to the exigencies of the real world
where systems limitations, as well as human failings, dictate how effe---
tively near-real-time intelligence support can be provided to tactical
forces.
Finally, I would like to indicate that it has been reported to me
that V Corps, VII Corps and the USAFE Collection Management Office made
very positive contributions to this important project. Please convey
my personal appreciation, therefore, to Lt. General Sid Berry and
