Mayor Alan M. Parente
Office of the Mayor
Glen Cove, NY 11542
Dear Mayor Parente:
Thank you for your letter of 28 April 1982 in which you cited a
report in Newsda of U.S. Government awareness of a monitoring facility
in the Soviet estate in Glen Cove.
You should know that there exists a clear line of demarcation in
the counterintelligence field between CIA and the FBI. CIA's role is
essentially limited to the foreign environment. I have therefore taken
the liberty of forwarding your letter to the FBI, since this is a domes-
tic matter and clearly within the province of the Bureau. Judge Webster's
staff has been notified of your concern and has agreed to address the
matter promptly.
Thank you again for bringing this issue to our attention.
Sincerely,
William J. Casey
Director of Central Intelligence
