FROM Special Assistant to the DDCI
On behalf of the DDCI, I am sending you the attached letter, which
requests a comprehensive briefing on CIA's knowledge of Soviet efforts in
laser weapon R&D. (I trust that Mr. Dirks will be made aa~are of this
request.)
Please ensure that the appropriate elements of the three Directorates
are involved fully in the preparations for this briefing, given that both
collection and analysis activities are to be addres ed and iven the last
sentence of USDR&E's request. Can someone, perhaps explain to
me u~rhat USDR&E is referring to in the last sentence of his letter? In any
case, it may be that one or more experts--from SE, CRES, and/or OSWR--should
attend, and participate in the briefing, as well.
