At my request, the Electro-Optical and Directed Energy Steering Group
E )has developed suggested cost figures in response to your questions
concerning recommended funding increases in the near-term (FY 83 and 84) to
improve the overall U.S. LASINT collection program. The recommendations are
attached and have been provided separately to your staff.
The dollar amounts are directl related to the recommendations made in
my November 1982 memo, and total
in FY84. The resources support col ec ion programs an ec no ogy, a
comprehensive high energy laser (HEL) measurements program, and a joint
CIA/DIA LASINT feasibility oroaram. However. the ma.ior new emphasis is on
