Dr. Burton Edelson
Associate Administrator for Space
Science and Applications
400 Maryland Avenue, S.W.
Washington, D.C. 20516
Dear Dr. Edelson:
_J
Continuing development of new space systems and technologies
has led me to believe that the organizations which have a major
interest in the future of foreign or domestic space activities
would profit from a stimulating interchange of information and
ideas. As a step in that direction, Dr. Richard Det_auer,
Dr. Hans Mark, Dr. George A. Keyworth, and I are sponsoring a
colloquium to discuss possible military, civil. and other
missions in space during the next two deca-des and beyond by
examining new systems concepts and technologies.
The other sponsors and I believe chat your particl.pation
would make a very valuable contribution to the colloquium. We
invite you to present a paper on the Future Economic Utility of
Space. We suggest that you devote about half of your discussion
to systems currently planned and alternatives to these systems,
and the remaining half to possible future systems and missions
beyond the currently planned next generation.
We believe it is important that you also participate in the
general discussions throughout the colloquium. Only a few
persons are being invited to present papers and each is asked to
speak for about an hour so that ample time can he allotted for
discussion.
A dinner for colloquium participants will be held in the
Executive Dining Room of CIA Headquarters, on the evening of
3 June. We hope you will. be able to join us in this part of the
colloquium as well.
The colloquium will be held on 3 and 4 June 7.952 at CIA
Headquarters. Participants will be limited to about. 5:) of the
most knowledgeable persons involved in f.iture space systems and
technologies including those who will present papers. The
discussions will be at the SI/TK/BYE level of classification.
