1. In response to your memorandum regarding the kind of research we have done on
tribal influence on the forces for stability and instability, the following studies are
attached:
? Chad: Origins and Impact of Factional Strife
? Saudi Arabia: The Bedouins as a Political Force
? The Baluch of Pakistan: Prospects for Renewed Revolt
? Djibouti: Rough Road Ahead
? South Africa: The Black Political Dynamic
2. These research efforts represent some of our most current work on tribal
factors, but do not nearly encompass the totality of that available. There is, for
example, a 100-plus page computer printout listing the studies which are at least partly
devoted to this and related topics. If you would like to see the printout or more of the
off-the-shelf product, I can certainly make them available to you at your convenience.
