Approved For Release 2007/11/21 : CIA-RDP83M00914R002100150026-9 Central Intelligence Agency Honorable Robert C. Byrd United States Senate Washington, D.C. 20510 Dear Senator Byrd: Thank you for your letter of 26 February 1982 commenting on the briefing you received on 18 February concerning certain developments in Central America. As you will recall, that briefing covered a specialized aspect of our interest in that area as part of our mutual desire to keep you notified about related developments. I have checked with Mr. Clarridge who gave you that briefing and have confirmed that there are no new significant developments to report to you in that specialized area. The 25 February briefing of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence which you'mention in your letter was devoted to questions and subject matter of a different nature in response to specific queries from that Committee. Matters concerning the specialized area of Mr. Clarridge's briefing for you did not arise in the 25 February hearing. The transcript of that hearing is retained by the SSCI however, so you may wish to obtain a copy from the Committee to reassure yourself on this point. I appreciate your continuing interest in intelligence matters of mutual concern and am, of course, prepared to keep you, as an ex-officio Member of the SSCI, informed on such matters. Sincerely, William J. Casey Director of Central Intelligence Distribution: Orig -'Addressee 1 - DCI 1 - DDCI 1 y Executive hirector - ER 1 - EA Record 1 - EA Chrono OEXA:ACP:rjg -(4 Mar R2) Retyped:rjg (5 Mar R2) Approved For Release 2007/11/21 : CIA-RDP83M00914R002100150026-9
