Special Assistant for Coordination of
International Narcotics Matters
SUBJECT Narcotics Briefing for Admiral Daniel Murphy,
Special Assistant to Vice President Bush
1. In response to a request from Admiral Murphy's office
for a briefing on the Latin American narcotics situation
relative to the Vice President's role on the "Florida Task
Force", the Admiral w -bjiiefed by CIA officers on 11 March
1982.. DDO/LA and IAD I as well as three officers from 25x1
DDI/OGI gave presentations on topical areas of interest:
a) cocaine and marijuana in Colombia and Jamaica; b) trafficking
routes and patterns; c) opium and marijuana; and 25x1
d) money launderingr- The first e. presentations focused
on Ito produce narcotics estimates;
3. The Admiral noted that he would be accompanying
Vice President Bush to the Bahamas.. to discuss the narcotics
situation there during the week of 14 March. Sometime after
his return from the Bahamas, the Admiral said he intends to
call a "task force" together of principal officers from all
agencies involved in the drug problem. The purpose of the
meeting.will be to devise a plan of "what should be done,
.what can be done- and what is needed to accomplish the plan,"
The Admiral said he is willing to talk to

a problem and if need be, he expressed confidence that he
could have narcotics intelligence collection priorities
raised.
4. I suggest the DDCI be made aware of Admiral Murphy's
intent to discuss this topic with the DDCI.
