On behalf of the members of the Yale Political Union, it
is my distinct pleasure to invite you to be our guest at
Yale during the coming-academic year.
The Political Union is a non-partisan forum for political
debate and discussion. It is by far the largest and most
active organization on campus. Recent guests have included
Zbigniew Brzezinski, Barry Commoner, Betty Friedan, John
Anderson, and George Franklin. Since it was founded in
1934, the Union has tried to live up to the challenge issued
by President Franklin Roosevelt: "This union can be of
undoubted value to the nation as well as the University."
Arrangements with our guest speakers are tailored to
provide all involved with the most worthwhile experience
possible. A typical schedule might include a reception and
dinner wth members of the Union and the. Yale community, a
press conference wth area media, and an evening address on a
topic of mutual interest, followed by a question-and-answer
discussion period. The entire format is, of course, very
flexible, and we are more than willing to adjust it to your
schedule. As to specific dates, almost any evening, Sunday
throug Thursday, between September 6 and December 1_5 is
convenient to the Union. We will, of course, reimburse you
for your travel expenses and provide overnight
accomodations, if you so desire.
Should you have any questions about the Union or the
arrangements, please feel free to contact me at the address
below, or, after September 1, at the Political Union office
in New Haven. I look forward to hearing from you, and hope
to have the honor and pleasure of welcoming you to Yale this
fall.
Sincerely,
l
Joan M. Canny
