MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence
Deputy Director of Central Intelligence
THROUGH: Executive Director
Director, Office of External Affairs
SUBJECT: Invitation from Georgetown's Center for
Strategic and International Studies
1. You both have been invited to attend a breakfast discussion con-
cerning R&D funding hosted by Georgetown University's Center for Strategic
and International Studies on 23 June in Room S-207 of the Capitol. As
you will note on the attached correspondence, the Center has established
a standing panel of experts to study and assess R&D and National Strength,
focusing on the problems of relating science and engineering resources to
the needs of the national security community. The Center is preparing a
report which will be the topic of that breakfast discussion.
2. Several Senators (Glenn, Cohen, Mathias and Helms), Congressman
Fuqua, and Secretaries Weinberger and Trent have been invited to attend.
The invitation claims to be held under the auspices of Senator Jake Garn.
After some checking, however, we have learned that Senator Garn will not
be attending and the other invitees are as yet undecided. Consequently,
I recommend that you decline the invitation and have my Public Affairs
staff relay your regrets.
