SUBJECT: DDI Activity Report, 5 July - 9 July 1982
DCI/DDCI-Assigned Tasks
ALA responded to the DCI's request for a written brief on prospects for Argentina
in preparation for his session with PFIAB.
The DDCI was briefed by EURA, OGI, and SOVA on the Soviet pipeline and Western
Europe's demand for natural gas.
EURA, OGI, and SOVA provided papers on Soviet and West European strategy
regarding the gas pipeline, US-European economic relations, and the shrinking market for
West European exports in Eastern Europe to the NIO/Economics for the DCI's use in an
NSC meeting.
OGI prepared a memorandum for the DCI on the differences between CIA
estimates of Soviet oil production and those of other agencies and organizations.
Of Special Interest This Week
At the request of the DDCI, ALA briefed
]on El Salvador.
NESA participated in a meeting wit Princeton University. The
Lebanon situation and the Iran-Iraq war were discussed.

OEAA responded to questions on Taiwan's defense needs that were submitted by the
House Foreign Affairs Committee.
At DCD request, OEAA analysts met with officials
Taiwan and China.
OGI briefed DoD's Joint Special Operations Command on the Agency-wide
integrated data base systems on terrorism.
OSWR briefed the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia on a medical
screening program for chemical warfare victims.
OSWR chaired the first meeting of the DCI CBW-Use Intelligence Working Group.
The first project will focus on issues concerning South East Asian and Afghanistan CBW
use.
On top of normal weekly activities, the DDI was involved in extensive meetings on
the Lebanese crisis.
Looking Ahead
EURA and SOVA will be briefing Commonwealth representatives on the peace
movement in Eastern Europe and its spillover into Western Europe.
OSWR will brief the NSA Science Advisory Board on technology transfer.

The Directorate was involved in 2 briefings at all levels on the Hill this week.
