Report Intelligence Corrmunity Staff Directorate for Administration -- for Counterterrorism and Crisis Reponse, and OMS staffers are participating in Ellipse Echo 2, a joint counterterrorism exercise in Key West sponsored by COMJSOC/USCINCSO. -- Operations Course began on?22 August 25X1 25X1 25X1 -- The President approved, effective 1 October, a bill amending the Military Personnel and Civilian Employee Claims Act, thereby increasing the maximum payable from $15,000 to $25,000. -- Approximately one and a half work years are required to modify payroll procedures for the implementation of the 1.3 percent payroll deduction for Medicare effective in pay period one of 1983. Directorate for Operations -- No report. Deputy Director for Science and Technology -- FBIS will continue indefinitely its JPRS publications on the "Law of the Sea." -- FBIS has prepared "Soviet Media and the Succession: The Stalin and Khrushchev Precedents" for analysts who will study Soviet media at the time of the Brezhnev succession for clues on the likely nature and policy direction of the new regime. \~~n ~~~ )~'~~~ry ~J' l:Juk~a Approved For Release 2007/03123: CIA-RDP83M00914R002900040025-4 Deputy Director for Intelligence - OGI is preparing talking points for the DDCI for his upcoming West Coast trip. Topics include political instablility, international financial and economic problems, personality and political styles of foreign leaders, and industries and commercial markets ripe for investment/attention. National Intelligence Council - NIO/GPF briefed the Chairman, JCS and the Chief of Staff, Air Force on GPF programs. General Vessey was interested in the NIE on the Military Reliability of the Soviet Union's Warsaw Pact Allies. He indicated requirement to identify exploit- able weaknesses in the Soviet-NSWP structure and to assess the effectiveness of Soviet control mechanisms. Personnel -- See tab. General Counsel - Agreement was reached between OGC and Jordan's lawyers settling Jordan v. Casey without a court trial. Department of Justice approval is expected and will bring this poten- tially precedent setting case to a close. - A routine security reinvestigation and polygraph resulted in the arrest of an Office of Logistics employee for theft of government property.
