Weekly Report
Intelligence Community Staff
The Deputy Secretary of Defense has invited DDCI participation in a Defense review
of the survivability of reconnaissance systems.
A plan is being prepared for the increased use of SIGINT for monitoring narcotics
trafficking activities and for long range funding and staffing requirements for this 25X1
activity.

pipeline prepared for the NSC and for Richard Burt, Assistant Secretary of State for

- At DDCI request, OGI is working with DDO and DEA to try to declassify its conference
report on Cuban involvement in narcotics/terrorism.

- ALA briefed Vice President Bush and his advisers on the security implications of the
Caribbean Basin Initiative.
- OSWR has initiated, with TRW, a historical study of ICBM-related technology transfers
from the West and their impact on Soviet missile performance.
- SOVA briefed Time magazine journalist Hugh Sidney on Soviet foreign policy.
National Intelligence Council
- Secretary Shultz has asked for an NIE on Poland to be completed by 30 August.
Differences within the Community are expected on Jaruzelski's freedom for action and
his intentions.
- NIO/GPF will brief the Chairman, JCS, and Chief of Staff of the Air Force next week
on the GPF intelligence production program.
