Weekly Report
the Community Counterintelligence Staff has been asked to brief
FYIAB on November 1982 regarding implementation of NSSD-2 and the activities of
the IG/CI and IG/CM. C/CI/DDO, also has been invited to brief the Board
on the same subjects.)
Directorate for Administration
- Approximately 1,500 employees have attended the FBI's presentation on the hostile
intelligence threat in the Washington area. Due to this overwhelming response, the
Security Education Group, Office of Security, is scheduling additional sessions for
8 and 10 November.

Deputy Director for Intelligence
- At the DCI's request, OGI prepared a special map and graphics package on forced labor
camps and the oil/gas pipeline network in the U.S.S.R.
- OSWR has arranged a satellite survivability briefing for the DCI by
- OSWR provided the DCI with talking points and a background paper on battlefield
lasers for a Presidential briefing.
- OSWR participated in briefings on Soviet high energy laser developments and LASINT
collection to Members of OMB, HPSCI and the SSCI.
- OSWR will brief Ambassador Walters on Pakistan's nuclear weapon program.
National Intelligence Council
- A/NIO/NESA prepared memos for the DCI on U.S. planning for naval exercises off the
Libyan coast and the dangers inherent in conducting those exercises.
- NIO/USSR-Eastern Europe had a session with the DDO's branch chief workshop during
which a number of DO officers expressed concern about policymakers' desires to get
analysis and clandestine reporting that support their policies. They thought that this
problem, although endemic in the relationship between policymakers and intelligence
professionals had grown worse in recent years.

- As a result of his discussions with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Palmer and
other State officers, NIO/USSR-EE is working with DI/SOVA to produce an analysis of
the Soviet grain situation for the U.S. delegation that is going to negotiate a new grain
deal with the Soviets. He also attended a meeting at State on measures to keep the
Polish situation before the world public.
