SUBJECT: Request for ODP Pa m of Extended Maintenance
Fees on Software Packages (C)
2. In October 1979, responsibility for the type of
analytical work was transferred to NFAC/OGCR, and after a brief trial
period the program is becoming operational. The software will continue
to be an essential tool for this analytical work, and the annual
maintenance fees will have to be paid routinely to avoid losing the
program license and to ensure that important program revisions can
be added as they become available. The "maintenance" paid for in
this manner pertains only to enhancements in the software packages
in question, and does not cover such items as program modifications to
accommodate Agency/ODP computer system upgrades. (S/NF/NC)
3. Because these extended maintenance fees will be a recurring
expense for regular maintenance of software programs in the central
processing library, it would seem appropriate that ODP assume responsi-
bility for the payments, rather than continuing to pay these fees
from NFAC external analysis funds, which are extremely scarce in both
FY 1980 and FY 1981. (U)
