OS /SDP Working Group (U)
(AIUO) The Working Group met on 26 October. items discussed
were destruction of surplus disk platters, and forming of
an auditing and access control sub-group to define security
requirements policy and audit procedures. Also discussed
were the risk analysis study that OS is undertaking on the 25X1A
Ruffing and Special Centers, guidelines for computer output
distribution point security, and on-going efforts in implement,-
ing software pac'.agd?,s to enhance system security.

We are ready to produce the 5x8 cards for the pay raise riotics
to employees next week. The salary table for the wage schedule

Heavy Budget Processing Fxpected (U)
(AIUO) Inputting of data for the FY-79 Congressional Ludget 25X1A
is scheduled during the period 7 4ovember through 19 December.
W expect this high volume of activity on the GIM Production
System to cause some degradation of system response.
.A Minicomputer Bardwa Problems (U)
(AIUO) The :CSC PDP minicomputers that collect cable ssage
traffic for Machine Assisted Dissemination (MAD) have experi-
enced several tape drive problems in the last week. T?1145
required massages to be retransmitted from office of o imu..ica-
tions. The cause of the problems is :eing investigated and
remedial action started at once. The maintenance vendor has
been told to improve his service because it has degraded over
the last two months following a change in vendor personnel.
Replacing some of the equipment is being studied to see if it
would result in improved reliability.

(U) The Agency's SAFE Design Competition Phase Co tractors'
orientation !riefings were completed on 28 October. ',::hey
concluded with separate sessions with each of the contractors
The briefings were praised by the contractors`
project leaders for answering many questions and providing
a better understanding of the SAFE environment.
(U) CIA and 3IA SAFE Project 'lanagement Officers presented
a review of the consolidated SAFE Project to 0MB examiners
and IC Staff representatives on 28 October 1977.
ADSTAR (U)
(U) we are preparing planning data for the Office of :gistics
which will make it possible to calculate power, cooling, and
space requirements for the Stand-Alone Input Processing,
Retrieval, and Conversion Sub Systems of ADSTAR. 25X1A

(AIUO) At the 21 October 1977 Steering Committee eeting,
the Project office recommended termination of the PJ PID con-
tract. -fir. D Arks requested office of General Counsel and
office of Logistics to provide him with a procedure by which
this may be accomplished. Both nd ODP will be providS TSPEC

Training (U)
(U) Basic Program Design, a two day course, was complet
by 7 students. interactive Systems Concepts, a one day
course, was completed by 19 students.
