ODP Report for Week ending 21 October 1977
Training Provided to FBI
ODP taught an eight day course, GIN--II Dictionaries,
which was completed by 13 students. Five of these students
are with the FBI and have been provided this training to
help the FBI become more proficient with their newly intro-
duced 1 IM-II system. GI-1-II is a data base management system
developed by TRW, Inc. for the Federal government and funded
primarily by CIA. CIA is cooperating with other Federal
agencies, like the FBI, to help them gain experience with
this sophisticated system. Our main vehicle for this is a
GIMP Users Group sponsored by CIA. STATINTL
Hearing
The budget hearing with OMB and Intelligence Co uiity
Staff examiners was held on Thursday afternoon. The hear
ing was conducted on the consolidated decision package leve4TATINTL
which was contained in the Zero Base ,Budget (ZBB) format
previously provided to OMB. ODP answered 12 specific ..ues-
tuns that had been provided prior to the hearing.

Final Offers for IB 360/195 Coe. - utor Re lacement
The Office of Taogi stics has called for best and final
offers from bidders for the computer to replace the IBS
3601195. :Bast and final offers are due in by 21 October.

Comments were furnished the :?ational Bureau of Standards
on two proposed Federal Information Processing Standard STATINTL
Publications (FIPS PUB). These proposed PIPS PUBs addressed
standards for a computer program abstact and revisions to
a publication on optical character recognition.
A briefing on the CIA and =`JIA Joint SAFE Project will
be presented to the Senate Select Committee Staff on 4 ..;over;..
ber 1977 as part of a briefing on FAC'a use of A .0P. The
SAFE Design competition Phase (DCP) Orientation .3riefings

The -X AS system was down the night of 19-20 October with
hardware and software problems. The switch to the back-Up
computer was unsuccessful, making the system unavailable to
Community users from 1800 hrs. 19 October until approxir_:atel ,
1130 hrs. 20 October.
A reallocation of disk space for the CAMS data base in
the Special Center is scheduled for the weekend of 22 October.
To do this the data base must be '- frozen.. " Therefore, the data
base will be available to users in a retrieve-only rode for
a period of about 48 hours. - STATINTL

OCRDIR - Automation of the OCR directories. OCR has
approved the page galleys for the publication of the Cninese
and Romanian directories. Wo expect P&PO to complote the
printing of these directories early next month.
We have completed the development of all menus and pro-
cedures which will be used to input and maintain standard
directory data. Currently, we are performing final testincSTATINTL

The serious problem which caused the batch system in
JES3problem was caused by a user's unusual reference to a
`generation data group" (a special feature of the operating
system). 17111is should have resulted in the termination of
the job with a JCL (Job Control Language) error. I3stead,
the job caused JES3 to terminate abnormally. IBM is working
on a permanent fix for the problem. STATINTL
