BEIRUT INTERNATIONAL AIRFIELD
1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: THE ENTIRE 2,400-METER NORTH/SOUTH RUNWAY
AT BEIRUT INTERNATIONAL AIRFIELD IS APPARENTLY OPERATIONAL FOR
C-130 TYPE TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT. RUNWAY REPAIRS ARE IN PROGRESS
ON THE 2,663 METER NORTHEAST/SOUTHWEST RUNWAY.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: THE CRATERS ALONG THE CENTERLINE OF THE
NORTH/SOUTH RUNWAY HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. SOME CRATERS REMAIN
ALONG THE EDGE OF THIS RUNWAY BUT DO NOT AFFECT ITS OPERATIONAL
CAPABILITY. RUNWAY REPAIRS ARE IN PROGRESS ON THE
NORTHEAST/SOUTWEST RUNWAY. AT LEAST 25 VEHICLES/PIECES OF
EQUIPMENT ARE ON THE RUNWAY, TAXIWAYS, AND CROSSOVERS. MANY OF
THE CRATERS ON THE RUNWAY AND PARALLEL TAXIWAY APPEAR TO HAVE
BEEN FILLED.
