1. (SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: FORTIFICATIONS SIMILAR To IRAQI
FORTIFICATIONS IN THE AL BASRAH AREA HAVE BEEN CONSTRUCTED NEAR
THE EGYPT-LIBYA BORDER.
2. (SON) REMARKS: AT LEAST FIVE BATTALION-SIZED DEFENSIVE AREAS
(NOT ALL 00 GRAPHIC) HAVE BEEN CONSTRUCTED IMMEDIATELY WEST OF
AS SALLUM INFANTRY BRIGADE AREA SINCE EACH AREA
HAS THREE COMPANY-SIZED DEFENSIVE POSITIONS FORMING A BATTALION
TRIANGLE. EACH OF TIE COMPANY POSITIONS CONSISTS OF EARTHERN
BERMS AND INTERNAL TRENCHING. ONE COMPANY POSITION APPEARS TO
BE OCCUPIED IN EACH OF THE FIVE AREAL.
(SWN) AS SALLUM IS APPROXIMATELY 4 NM EAST OF THE EGYPT-LIBYA
BORDER.
