1. (SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: THIS IS THE THIRD REGIMENTAL-SIZE
HELIPORT IDENTIFIED IN THE TRANSBAYKAL MILITARY DISTRICT
(MD) SINCE DECEMBER 1981 AND BRINGS THE TOTAL IN THIS MD TO
SIX.
2. (SWN) REMARKS: A HELICOPTER ATTACK HELIPORT WAS IDENTIFIED
IN LATE STAGES OF C i UCTION AT KHADA BULAK STATION
AIRFIELD ON IMAGERY THE HELIPORT WAS 25X1
NOT PRESENT ti ALMOST SIMILAR 25X1
STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION THIS CONSTRUCTION 25X1
CONSISTS OF A CONCRETE RUNWAY, A LARGE CONCRETE
PARKING/LANDING APRON, NINE CONCRETE HARDSTANDS, AND 78
HELICOPTER PIERCED-STEEL-PLANKING (PSP) HARDSTANDS. THE PSP
HARDSTANDS ARE DIVIDED AMONG THREE SQUADRON-SIZED AREAS. A
NORTHWEST AREA CONSISTS OF 26 SMALL AND TWO LARGE
HARDSTANDS; A SOUTHEAST AREA CONSISTS OF 22 SMALL AND THREE
LARGE HARDSTANDS; AND A NORTHEAST AREA CONSISTS OF 23 SMALL
HARDSTANDS, TWO LARGE HARDSTANDS, AND A FIRING-IN BUTT. AN
ADDITIONAL NINE CONCRETE HARDSTANDS ARE ON A TAXIWAY
PARALLEL TO THE RUNWAY.
(SWN) AT LEAST 15 SUPPORT BUILDINGS IN VARIOUS STAGES OF
CONSTRUCTION, SEVERAL STACKS OF BUILDING MATERIALS, AND
EXTENSIVE TRENCHING WERE OBSERVED IN A SUPPORT AREA AT THE
NORTHWESTERN END OF THE HELIPORT.
(SWN) KHADA BULAK STATION AIRFIELD WAS FORMERLY A
GRADED-EARTH DISPERSAL AIRFIELD AND IS APPROXIMATELY 45 NM
NORTHWEST OF THE USSR/MONGOLIA/CHINA BORDER.
