CZECHOSLOVAKIAN ARMY-LEVEL
MOBILE SIGNAL REGIMENTS (S)
1. (S/WN) This report discusses the vehicles in Czechoslovakian army-level signal regiments and
establishes an imagery-derived order-of-battle for electronics/communications equipment usually seen
in such units. It outlines the equipment and organization for the two army-level signal regiments in
Czechoslovakia (Figure 1): Plzen Army Barracks Borech 001/002 in the 1st Army (Figure 25X1
2), and Pisek Army Barracks West 001/HQ 4th Army Figure 3), in the 4th Army. This report 25X1
is based on imagery acquired from November 1971 through April 1982.
Equipment
2. (S/WN) Analysis of the two army-level signal regiments during the reporting period resulted in
the following: assigning one possible and one confirmed Czechoslovakian designator to previously uni-
dentified mobile signal vans, identifying a Soviet radio station mounted on a Praga V3S chassis; and
assigning NPIC interim designators to six Czechoslovakian and three Soviet signal vans the designators of
which are unknown to NPIC.
3. (S/WN) The following table indicates the vehicles observed in the two signal regiments that have
distinct imagery signatures. The NPIC interim designator indicates the type of vehicle chassis on which
the box-bodied van is mounted and includes a number which identifies the specific box body.

Organization
4. (S/WN) The battalions in the two regiments have slightly different equipment holdings and
organizational structures. These differences may be a result of different mission requirements for each
regiment. The basic structure of the regiment is three signal battalions, a telecommunications battalion,
and a support battalion.3
5. (S/WN) The three signal battalions in the Pisek regiment and two of the three signal battalions at
Plzen are virtually identical. Each contains 37 to 45 vehicles (Figures 7 and 8) and consists of the following
equipment:

6: (S/WN) The third signal battalion at Plzen differs slightly. This battalion contains at least 37
vehicles, including 12 TAT-805-01s, two Tatra-805s, one RDM-12 radio relay set, two-ZIL-131-04s, and one
UAZ-69. This is the only signal battalion equipped with Tatra-805 vehicles, and it is possible the battalion
has not been updated, as of April 1982, with the more modern Praga-V3S.
7. (S/WN) The telecommunications battalion at Pisek (Figure 9) and the one at Plzen (Figure 10) are
similar except for the total number of vehicles. The battalion at Pisek contains 49 vehicles and the Plzen
battalion contains 70 vehicles.
