THE DIRECTOR OF
CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE
National Intelligence Council
28 April 1982
.Admiral Robert long
CIPJCPAC
Dear Bob:
Please accept my thanks to you and to your
staff for the hospitality and logistical support
provided to all of us at the COM conference last
week. There is nothing like military planning
and organization, and I was delighted to be a
beneficiary.
Your presentation on multi-national
strategy was very interesting. Is there any
intelligence support we can provide to underpin
your proposal? For example, we might be able to
assess specific kinds of country-to-country
military capabilities that the multi-national
concept draws upon.
I haven't forgotten that if the Chinese
agree to receive you in Beijing, you will
require an updated assessment of the
capabilities of the Chinese navy. 4Je are ready
to write, but as you know, the prospects for a
visit look poor at this time.
