DCI/DDCI Assigned Tasks 1. Six NIOs and Q of DDI/SOVA accompanied John McMahon to the Hill on Tuesday for the Worldwide Briefing performance for the HAC Defense Subcommittee. 2. Hans Heymann prepared at the DCI's request a short written explanation of the nature of the intelligence evidence that led to the conclusions reached in the recent SNIE on "yellow rain" and later briefed Congresman Robert Dorman (R, Cal.) on the same subject. Hans is now fully engaged in restructuring the draft global economic assessment along the lines he proposed in his meeting with the DCI. 3. Charles Waterman updated briefing book materials and orally briefed the DCI prior to the NSC meeting on Libya on 25 February. 4. Constantine Menges prepared a number of materials in support of the DCI's briefing of the SSCI on Central American problems. TT_ Other Activities i 6. David Gries and DDI analysts (as well as State Department and DIA representatives) gave a current intelligence briefing on Japan to Congressman Solarz and his Asia and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee of HFAC yesterday. It Approved For Release 2007/05/14: CIA-RDP83T00966R000100010008-2 is SECRET 7. participated in the SIG meeting on 24 February that discussed Polish sanctions and also took part in a meeting of CIA and Treasury analysts to discuss US financial and economic policy objectives toward Eastern Europe. . 8. Gray Cowan is helping State prepare for a special meeting on Angola. 9. Charles Waterman arranged CIA participation in a discussion with Assistant Secretary Veliotes of State on economic issues confronting our interests in the Persian Gulf; discussed Middle Eastern issues with senior SFRC staffers (particularly Senator Baker's assistant ; and set up a meeting between appropriate DDI analysts and who has developed a creative approach to the analysis and prediction of instability. III. Future Activities 10. A second Memo to Holders of the recently-completed nuclear terrorism paper and one on anti-US terrorism are on the NFIB agenda for the meeting of 2 March. The next estimate in line for NFIB consideration should be NIE 11-3/8-81, whose coordination by the NFIB Reps is nearing completion. /Jq 4-tot , /114- Henry S.
