SUBJECT: Joint OSD/DCI Net Assessment.
You asked me on Friday about the status of the OSD/DCI.Net Assessment.
The first drafts of three chapters will be available for comment by the
first week in February. The preparation of the input from the Intelli ence
Communit is being managed by Larry Gershwin, NIO/SP.
Office of Soviet Analysis, CIA, are drafting the chapter for
which we have primary responsibility. An outline has been prepared for
this chapter, but drafting cannot begin until his group's participation
in NIE '11-3/8-81 diminishes (end of February). The outline is being sent
to the NFIB Representatives for NIE 11_x/8, and the chapter will be co-
ordinated as if it were an NIE. u
