DCI/DDCI Assigned Tasks 1. We-continued w kinc on refining the global economic assessment along lines suggested by you, and others. 2. We supplied you during the week with revised contributions for your Worldwide briefing of Congress and with copies of the talking points the NIOs plan to use. We will be providing you today the additional revisions you requested yesterday. 3,. At your request, Charles Waterman briefing you orally on Iran and Shia Moslem. 4. Constantine Menges prepared a talking points paper for your use at today's NSPG meeting on Cuba. II. Other Activities 5. Yesterday I attended the SIG meeting on INF that addressed the subject of limitation of conventionally armed cruise missiles. I made a presentation showing the essential non-verifiability of the proposed limitations. 6. -I attended another in a series of meetings of Spviet analysts internal strains in the Soviet Union -- this one with SOVA officers I I SECRET Approved For Release 2007/05/14: CIA-RDP83T00966ROO0100010034-3 ? SECRET 7. I met separately with Gene Rostow and Ed Rowny to review prospects for INF and START negotiations; Larry Gershwin also attended the meeting with Rowny. 8. David Gries, Assistant NI0/EA of DDI/OEA 25X1 met with NSC staffers to discuss North Korea. 9. (A/NI0/USSR-EE) met with Senator Pressler to talk about the senators r trip to Poland. Pressler was impressed with the defiant mood of the population -- defiance which for the time being is expressed only vocally. He believes that Archbishop Glemp regrets the cutting off of US credits. 10. Charles Waterman gave you memos reporting on the Libya Task Force meeting at the White House and commenting on the Libyan paper to be discussed at the NSC meeting on Libya. He also met with and agreed to provide Wat Cluverius (Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State) and Geoffrey Kemp (NSC Staff) with maps, briefing boards, and talking points concerning the Egyptian- Israeli autonomy talks. 11. Gray Cowan chaired a meeting at State to talk about Terms of Reference for an NSC-requested IIM on Soviet influence regarding a Namibian settlement and on an independent Namibia. III. Future Activities 12- Four members of your Science and Technology Advisory Panel have been invited to come by during the course of next week to review and critique our draft IIM on "yellow rain."
