The NIC held its overnight conference on 16- 17 March. The 31 persons attending included a s and seven AG analysts, as well as a number of outside guests. We were glad that the DCI was able to join us there for dinner on the 16th. Our discussions, centering on warning, the direction of the policy process, and the production of estimates, were fruitful. 3. I participated in the Agency's briefing program for visiting university presidents on 18 March. 4, represented CIA at an interagency meeting on arms sal '5 10 r an an at another meeting on.contingency planning for Soviet actions against Pakistan. 5? participated in briefing the SSCI on 15 March on Salvador and attended a meeting today of the Interagency Steering Group on Central American issues. DCI/DDCI-Assigned Tasks 12 March 1982 1. A revised draft of the threat section of the NSSD 1-82 national security strategy paper was completed on 18 March. 6.1 -J chaired meetings to coordinate the draft of NIE 13- 10-82: Political Succession in China, the drafter,?is expected to visit Beijing in May to discuss e draft with Embassy officers. Future Activities 7. leaves on 25 March on a State-conducted three-week25X1 briefing trip to eight or nine countries on toxins and other lethal chemical agents. The purpose of the trip is to help inform friendly governments of the background of the evidence and to help improve related intelligence collection activities in Southeast Asia and the Pakistan-Afghanistan region. 8. NIE 11-3/8 will be the focus of next Tuesday's NFIB meeting. The draft SNIE on prospects for Poland has been circulated to NFIB principals for a telephonic concurrence next week and the revised draft IIM on anti-US terrorism is also about ready to be distributed for a telephone vote.
