DCI/DDCI-Assigned Tasks -- Nothing of significance to report. II. Other Activities 18 June 1982 -- At the request of Secretary Haig, NIO/LA is accompanying Michael Ledeen on a trip to France, West Germany, and the Netherlands from 15 to 23 June to discuss with local officials Central America and other principal US policy concerns. -- C/NIC chaired a two-day meeting of the Chief of Naval Opera- tions Executive Panel this week. The main items of interest were a report on the circumstances that led to Argentina's sinking of the Sheffield, and Soviet paranoia concerning the vulnerability of their SSBNS. NIO/SP also briefed the group on the findings of NIE 11-3/8-81. -- NIO/NESA participated with D/NESA/DDI and C/NE/DDO in various meetings with the DCI on the Lebanese situation, and he supervised the preparation and coordination of an interagency assessment on "The Likely Evolution of The Lebanese Situation" that was sent to the DCI on 17 June. -- A/NIO/LA attended an IG meeting on 16 June on US policy toward Latin America in the post-Falklands war period. Future Activities -- NIO/Economics leaves on 21 June for a six-day stay in Brussels to attend.(along with EURA and SOVA officers) a NATO "Conference of Heads of Economic Intelligence for NATO Member Countries." -- NIO/AF will again brief Ambassador Kirkpatrick either at the UN in New York on in Washington, on African topics. -- NIO/SP will brief Senator Brady (SASC) on 22 June on NIE 11- 3/8-81.
