DCI/DDCI-Assigned Tasks 11 June 1982 -- NIO/NESA and NIO/LA presented draft SNIEs on Iran-Iraq and Central America at the NFIB meeting of 8 June. Both papers were approved after discussion and some revision. II. Other Activities I I met here on 10 and 11 June to review a current Research Program and the NIC Estimates Program. The Panel was also asked by Bob Ames to look into how the Soviets might apply "active measures" in Iran. NIO/Warning met with the interagency Warning Working Group to discuss the DCI decision memorandum to NFIB. The WWG will meet again later this month to discuss nominations for NIO/Warning and members of a Warning Staff. C/NIC and VC/NIC have been invited to address the Military Intelligence Board on this subject in the near future. NIO/General Purpose Forces is currently participating in a several-day seminar on the theory of war at the Army War College. Carlisle, Pennsylvania. 25 25 Acting NIO/USSR-EE chaired an interagency meeting and subsequent preparation of a memorandum on the likely Soviet response to the Israeli-Lebanon crisis. SECRET ? -- NIO/NESA and one Assistant participated in a DO-sponsored Intelligence Community-wide seminar on Libya on 10 June. NTn/FA participated in meetings at State on arms sales to Taiwan -- NIO/LA attended IG working group meetings on 9 and 11 June on the US-Latin America policy environment in the post-Falklands period, and an Interagency Steering Group meeting on 11 June on Central American communications issues. On 10 June he hosted a Community debriefing of US Ambassador Quainton (Nicaragua). III. Future Activities -- VC/NIC and NIO-at-Large Hans Heymann will be participating in GLOBEX-82, a National Defense University major war game/simulation, from 14 to 25 June at the National War College -- NIO/Africa will brief Ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick at State on 14 June for her forthcoming trip to Africa.
