This memo establishes the Nuclear Energy Group* under the Item 5
Scientific Branch of ORE. It's functions are: coordinating and evaluating
intelligence pertaining to nuclear energy potential of foreign counties,
establishing and receiving all requirements for nuclear intelligence, es-
tablishing liaison between the Director and the AEC and itself and other
government agencies, and preparing estimates on foreign capabilities. The
Chief of the NEG must monitor and control all nuclear energy information rec'd
by CIG through OCD, disseminate all such info, review all OCD collection
directives relating to nuclear energy, maintain coordination in security and
operations with the OCD, AEC, and the OSO, and to maintain direct contacts wit
industries and individuals concerned with nuclear energy in coordination with
