I had a very nice talk today with Mr. James A. Garrison$
Chief of Procuremnent,, whom I have known since he first came
on board. He spoke very freely about the tasks of the office
and how ainistratively they have gone through a number of
changes,, although the function remained essentially the same.
The scale of the office,, however,, was increased enormously in
extent.
I said to Mr. Garrison that the questions which I left
with him were those in which someone looking in from the out-
side would be especially interested,, but no doubt there were
matters from an inside point of view which were important and
should not be neglected.
The office at this moment is more than usually busy due
to the reorganizations that have just occurred? and I asked
Mr. Garrison if he thought he could produce a report for us
within sixty days. He said he thought it could be done.
I said to him that with regard to certain matters to which
he referred$ it might be preferable to put them on ice for
the time being and simply refer to then in the history as being
known but not mentioned. He'said, in consequence, that if a
situation like this occurred, he would let me have a look at the
report before it was put into final form.
