March 21, 1980
We, at GEICO, are proud of our long history and tradition of close association with Govern-
ment employees. Through this association, we have had the pleasure of getting to know
many dedicated Government professionals.
Because we believe that high achievement and dedication should be recognized publicly,
and as an expression of our respect for and commitment to Government employees, we
have established the GEICO Public Service Award. Four $2,500 awards will be granted
to winners selected by a committee of distinguished persons from academe, and public,
private, and employee organizations. In sponsoring and structuring this awards program,
GEICO has worked closely with the Office of Personnel Management to assure that the
awards support and compliment existing recognition systems.
The attached brochure explains the program in more detail. Because I am sure there
are deserving employees in your organization who should be considered for this honor,
I would appreciate your support in ensuring that potential candidates at all levels of
the organization have an opportunity to be considered for nomination. Your encourage-
ment in publicizing this program within your organization will be most helpful in this
regard.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions.
Very truly yours,
IIBMtMP1'Il' IILOYIEIE2

The
GEICO
Public
Service
Award
Our Purpose
More than 2 million persons work for the
Federal Government providing a multi-
plicity of services to our Nation's citizens.
All too frequently the public fails to learn
about the many achievements of public
servants whose efforts are making a
tremendous difference in the quality of ser-
vices, the efficiency of operations and the
success of their scientific, medical and
technical programs.
This is unfortunate, because there are
many federal workers who consistently ex-
cel in the performance of their duties and
in activities not related to their career with
the Government. And for a select few,
dedication to professionalism has resulted
in especially noteworthy accomplishments
exemplifying the highest attainment of
public service,
The Government Employees Insurance
Company (GEICO) is proud of its long
standing association with - and support
of -=- the Federal employee. Special recog-
nition for the quality of the Government
worker is a foundation upon which our
Company was built.
To further emphasize our belief that the
contributions of many hard working,
talented Government employees are de-
serving of special acclaim, GEICO has
established The GEICO Public Service
Award.
The Award
In 1980, GEICO will recognize publicly
four Federal employees for their special
achievements and contributions to the
public good in four areas of endeavor
which we believe improve the quality of
life in the United States (one Award will
be made in each area).
? Fire Prevention/Safety
? Traffic Safety/Accident Prevention
? Physical Rehabilitation
? Alcoholism
Winners of the GEICO Public Service
Award will be honored at a Special Award
Ceremony in the fall of 1980. They will
receive plaques commemorating their
outstanding accomplishments as well as a
cash award of $2,500 each in further
recognition of the significance of their
achievements,

gible.

ting procedures for incentive awards, each

commission or office in the Executive,.
02000400$ provided outstanding service to the
public or otherwise contributed noteworthy
achievements in the fields covered by The-
GEICO Public Service Award.
