Gambino Director of Security SUBJECT: Office of Security Significant Activities Week of 20 - 26 September 1979 (U) REFERENCE: DDA Administrative Instruction No. 74-5 1. This memorandum is for information only. (U) 2. The activities of the Office of Security during the week of 20 - 26 September 1979 were highlighted by the following items: a. On 19 September 1979, at the request of its Clerical. Management Advisory Group, OS/Security Education Group briefed approximately 70 employees of NFAC/Office of Geographic and Cartographic Research at Ames Building. The "Security Update" covered a variety of topics from the recent Agency espionage cases to what's in the future for Security. The program which was scheduled for approximately 75 minutes, continued for almost 3- 1/2 hours with but one five-minute stretch. Questions ranged across all of the Security disciplines. The audience was particularly interested in the current state of the reinvestigation program, proper Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) accountability procedures, responsibilities for reporting contact with foreign nationals and private foreign travel, security in office routine, use of secure telephones and other "Security Reindoctrination" topics. The exchanges were friendly and very lively. (U) b. The program will also provide the date, time and duration of all visits, as well as how many visitors by name a particular staff employee may have had over a period of time and will allow us to zero in on a specific time frame to identify all visitors and escorts entering Agency buildings. The application was developed using existing hardware and will not require additional personnel resources. (U) c. The Industrial Security Conference commenced on 26 September and will end on 27 September. Fifty- eight security officers from 36 companies are represented. They will be discussing the Industrial Security Audit Program and the new Standard Security Procedures for Contractors. The conference will conclude with addresses by the DCI and the Director of Security. (U) 25X1 C e. on 26 September, a representative of this Office conducted a security survey of the Judge's Chambers of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, Department of Justice Building, relevant to the storage of SCI material. (U) f. Two members of the Office of Security, along 25X1A with from the Office of Legislative Counsel, visited the office of Mr. Peter Bonner, the Minority Staff Chief for the Senate Appropriations Committee on 19 September. This meeting was held to discuss a possible audio countermeasures type briefing for the Senate Appropriations Committee members in light of recent leaks. An offer was made of a specialized briefing and Mr. Bonner will advise the wishes of the Committee in regards to this matter.
