MEMORANDUM FOR: OBGI Historian
SUBJECT : Cartographic Support to Paris Peace Agreement
The attached maps were prepared in Cartography Division for attaching to
the Protocols of the Paris Peace Agreement. The manner by which they were
done illustrates the Agency's unique capability in government to respond to
urgent requests for Cartographic support and is described herewith as a matter
of interest to you as a contemporary historian.
24 January, Wednesday, 1030 - Senior Desk Officer in the Far
East Des of Cartographic Research Branch
(CD/R) received call from a staff secretary
in the Office of the Special Assistant Vietnam
Affairs (SA*ea ertin us to stand by for a
rush job. SAVA, was at that
moment at e epartment receiving
instructions from Ambassador Sullivan, who
asked if CIA could prepare maps. At about
the same time, Dr. Kissinger was reporting
to the Washington Special Action Group,
at which meeting he said that he did not want
anyone to touch the malPexcept '-
people" (viz., CIA's Cartographers, who had
provided continuing support to the National
Security Staff and others concerned with
supporting the search for peace going back
to 1968).

come off press. Technical problem with
Vietnamese diacriticals slows down work.
2300 - Carto-Tech and Type Setter go home. The
PSD night crew at main plant calls it a
night, but clears the boards for the Special
Printing Plant earl mornin shift to process
the project. stand by to check
press run.
25 January, Thursday, 0800 - Last plate printed. go home.

1000 - Inconsistencies noted on printed copy. SAVA

are made plates go to printing plant.
1500 - Last plate printed and copies carried to Dulles
to a plane waiting to take off for Paris.
29 January, Monday, 1000 - Protocols initialed in Paris.
