The Liar Department has advised this Department that, duo to
redeployment by'-tho Army, the two radio operators at Baghdad are to
be removed as of Juno 30, 1946. It i6 felt that the maintenance of
effective communications with Iraq is a matter of national importance
r i~tho present time. In view of the absence of direct commercial
'o'~.`'unications with the United States, it would be appreciated if
consideration might be given to tho'assignmont uy the Strategic Services
Unit of two radio operators to'Baghdad, in order to maintain the
present circuit.
Your attention is invited in this connection to the arrangement
made for sending a special communications team to Tehran, Iran, and
Cairo, Egypt, to aid in the emergency which arose in Iran. The
Department wishes to take this opportunity to express its appreciation
for the 'i~ie~tivork this-'too .. It ?oe'ms?"that 'th6"Prpoted'
inclusion'-of?Baghdad in this network would be highly advantageous.
Very truly yours,
