Ethylenediamine, tetramethylenediamine, hexamethyl-
enediamine, octamethylenediamine and decamethylene-
diamine were synthesized and polymerized with tere-
phthalic acid. The best method for oixalning poly-
amides was to react terephthalic acid with the diamine
in water and condense the resulting diamine ammonium
terephthalate In p-cresol at 2180C. Spinnability was
demonstrated from hexamethylenedla mine on. and
products with a high degree of polymerization were ob-
tained. The melting points ranged bet%een 3000 to
