A hydroxyl compound, and probably the corresponding
nitrolle acid, is formed during the deamination. In
the case ot alpha-amino acids, carbon dioxide to also
liberated. The extent of the formation of nitrolic acid
depends on the concentration of the nitrite solution;
under conditions for the determination of the amino

The method is based upon glycol ethers yielding one
mole of (ethyl iodide ethylene) with boiling hydriodic
acid. The resultant ethyl iodide and ethylenc are
swept by carbon dioxide into a receiver charged with a
standard silver nitrate solution (in glacial acetic acid),
where ethyl iodide becomes absorbed. The ethylene is
carried by the carrier gas Into the azotometer where,
after absorption of the carbon dioxide, ethylene is left
behind. The ethyl iodide is determined by back-
tiirating tlie recciving silver nitrate solution with Olfi...f T-6i..1 S-ic-
potassium iodide. using Iodine and starch as an
