'Mc effect of feeding patterns, lon.- intervals between
meals, and a haphazard arrangement of nicals on
gastric secretion was studied. Long intervals bemeen
meals resulctid in a lower level of secretion and lm%er
Nrolu-ne, dige-itive pv,,cr, and acidity of the gastric
juice due to the uneven strain on the SECHnach's
functioning and its SUbsequmt disturbances. OLher

results include a thick mucus secretion, disappearance
of tile rcflc-x phase, and signs of dyspepsia. Normal
secretion vvas slowly regained with tile return to normal
meal intervals. Irregular meals caused no definite
trend in tile -;cc rctory process. Periods of hyper-anJ
hyposc-crerion, large amounts of mucus, low digestive
power of gastric juice, increased acldiEv, and decreasek
free I ICL were noted. Secretory patterns in the experi-
mental dogs varied from one experimcm to another.
Lidicitions of chronic hNpei-Lrophic gastrids were found
in tile gastric mucosa. All elements of tile peripheral
neurous were affected. 'I'liese findings confirm tile
view that gastritis may result from prolonged fUnctiOn.'Ll
