The sulf1dization Of Ce02 was beat accomplished by V. AD-246 714
introducing dry H2S over CeO2 at 9000C. The addition
of carbon contaminated the end product with carbides,
and the addition of sulfur only rendered the procedure
more complicated. 77be synthesis of monosulfide, was
conducted according to the reaction Ce2S3+ Ce02 +
2C -3- WeS + 2C0. The reactim was carried out in a
vacuum electric furnace at M-160ft. The reaction
productB were contaminated with carbides &W cxywA-
ftdes of cerium: the pure product was obtained after
subsequent second heating with an addition of 7C% of OR" 0 T-6.1ca S"-
the initial stoichlometric quantity of Ce 3
