Sonic 25 susliks were artificially infected during
hibernation and 37 were infected while awake. Several
of those infected during hibernation did not go back to
sleep. The resistance to plague was better in the
hibernating animals. Fatalities in hibernating animals
were 36%, as compared to 67% in animals Infected
