The unbleached magnesium-bisultite pulp is character-
Ized by high yield and high strength. When bleached
with the sequence chlorine- alkali -chlorine dioxide, a
large part of the high yield is lost. Vie optimum yield
of bleached pulp Is about 50% compared with 47 to 48%
for sulfur dioxide -calcium- sulfite pulp. Magnesium-
b1sulfite pulp retains Its good strength after bleaching.
The bleached pulp in sohmmizat more difficult to beat Offtee*fT ' 'edilavims
than the unbleached, but it has the same high breaUng
and burst strength as the unbleached pulp, which is corn
