W. Washington 4, D. C. August 29, 1962 Director Central Intelligence Agency Langley, Virginia On January 15, 1962, the Regional Sanitary Advisory Board of the Washington Metropolitan Regional Conference (now the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments) directed a preliminary inquiry into the problem of regional water supply. The Board appointed an ad-hoc committee to accomplish the task. The committee, known as the Ad-Hoc Committee on Regional Water Supply, has prepared a questionnaire to develop the basic data it will need to assess the problem and has sent it to the various political jurisdictions of the Region. The Committee is continuing its coverage of the problem and is now sends g the questionnaire to those military and federal establishments whose water supply and plans for insuring its adequacy appear to be of consequence in assessing the requirements of the region. The questionnaire, which is enclosed, is designed to yield basic information on where jurisdictions secure their water supply now and from what source they plan to obtain it in .the future; how much water they are now using and what they expect to use twenty and forty years from now; what areas they are now serving and areas they intend to supply in coming years. The Committee does not intend that the information reported should be so precise as to provide an answer to the regional water supply problem when the results have been analyzed. Rather, the Committee hopes that when the data have been examined, it will have a better comprehension of the need for pursuing the study in depth to provide guidance for planning the future water supply for the region. We shall look forward very much to your cooperation and help in providing information to put the problem in perspective. Please feel free to call the undersigned if you should desire any further information or assistance in completing the questionnaire, and return it on or before 15 October 1962. As ~`~ 1PI( Fol~rr ~i ~o ~r ~t ? 9%g1P91WfL1@d to send you a copy of the Committee's findings. Approved For Release 2003/04/29 : CIA-RDP84-0078OR000100110005-6 Very truly yours, NORMAN E.
