facilities of the federal goverment. The National Library of
Meed:icine, which was occupied In 191)2, -ias a fire detection system
and only six (6) inches between the top of the sh elv int and the
ceiling. The State Department Library, which was occupied in 1961,
has no fire detection system and shelving that is only one half
(.) an inch from the ceiling. In the National Agricultural Library,
a much older building without a fire detection system, there is no
space v iatssoever between t .,e shelves arx the ceiling.
